Why Standing "AGAINST" something fails and Standing "FOR" Something Succeeds

There are so many things that can get you riled up if you let it.   The fact that Donald Trump is now the American President does it for me. As a feminist,   I am shocked and disgusted by his comments about and behaviours towards women.

Recently, I have been watching a movie trailer on TV about a man with Dissociative Identify Disorder (DID), formerly known as Multiple Personality Disorder, who abducts 3 teenage girls.   This “gets my goat” . I worked in the field of mental health for18 years.   And during that time, I even worked with people with DID.   There was so rarely any cause for alarm.  

The fact is that people with mental health issues are no more likely to be violent than those in the general population.   Much research suggests that they are more likely to be victims of dangerous crimes.   Yet, the characterization of people with mental health issues as violent has been played out over and over again in other movies like “Wonderland” and “Fatal Attraction”.  

So what does this have to do with the Law of Attraction ?

A couple of years ago I heard Christy Whitman who is a Law of Attraction author, speaker and coach say that there is significant vibrational difference between standing for something versus standing against something.  Which made me think in both of the cases above, am I standing for or against?

While the U.S. election was going on, I did my best to limit my exposure to it, as it just brought up a lot of worry thoughts and lower vibratory emotions like fear and discouragement.  I realized that I did not want to feed my fears and the reality I did not want, by focusing on it.  Because I know what I focus on grows.  Instead, I tried to focus on how the election results were a good thing.  

What became apparent to me was that this contrast or this situation I don’t like, want or prefer to be happening is also a contrast experienced by many others. I thought this is an opportunity for an awakening or a reawakening of the masses.  That collectively, if we all focus on what we want as our preferred reality than major energetic shifts and ultimately physical manifestation shifts could happen.  

So here are some steps to stand for something, rather than against it:  

  • Pay attention to your thinking and language; Are you thinking I am pro human rights or against discrimination

  • Talk about the solution to the issue and talk about how you would like to see it: For example,, “I envision a world where people are coming together, banding together and standing for love, inclusion and equality” versus   “Our society is so divisive and judgmental. It will never change.”

  • Focus on the positive aspects of the contrast situation; When you focus on the negative you are biased to see only negative aspects of a situation.   When you focus on positive aspects you will see more evidence of the positive aspects in the situation.   You can focus on the positives by asking yourself, How is this contributing to your growth? How does this make you a better person? How does this contribute to our society for the better?   How has this contributed to create a clearer vision of what you want?  
  • Recognize and own the belief that you and only you are responsible for the way you feel

And finally as Abraham indicates;

  • Be willing to step out of the vibration of the masses to exercise your power to lead your life.

So, I am still in the process of getting a handle on the distorted and damaging portrayal of those with mental health issues on the movie screen and on TV.  As I go through the steps above I come up with:

"I am pro inclusion. I am pro awareness and destigmatization of mental health issues.  I envision a society where we portray positive messages of those living with a mental health diagnosis.  A society that embraces diversity and difference. This is an opportunity to for me to walk my talk and become more of who I want to be. An opportunity for me to work my energy and raise my consciousness knowing that this will affect those around me and their energy.  I know that I can choose what I think and feel at all times no matter what is happening around me.  And, I can choose to withdraw my focus from media that creates more fear. " 

Whether you are standing for Women’s Rights or you are standing for a subject in your personal life, the steps are very similar.   You can stay connected to your joy and power even when you are going through day to day life challenges.
